The Best Casual Games to Play at Work (Without Getting Caught)

Let's be real — we all need a break sometimes. You're staring at the same spreadsheet for the third hour, your brain is fried, and you just need five minutes to reset.

The problem? You can't exactly fire up a loud, flashy game that'll make it obvious you're slacking. You need something low-key, quick, and easy to close at a moment's notice.

Here are my go-to work break games:

The "just one more level" crew

These are dangerous because they're too fun. Play at your own risk.

Happy Glass 2 — You're just drawing lines on a screen. It looks innocent enough. But you'll be surprised how deep you get into it before you realize an hour has passed. Pro tip: keep it on the second monitor so you can quickly alt-tab.

Move Emoji — Sliding emoji blocks around is about as low-stakes as it gets. Nobody's gonna look over your shoulder and think you're slacking. "Oh, just playing with emojis" is the perfect cover.

Marvel Plane — Tap-tap-tap. It's basically a reflex game. You can play it with one hand, and it's easy to close instantly. Great for when you need to zone out for two minutes.

The "I'm totally working" crew

These look almost like work. Almost.

Electron dash — It's got graphs and physics and... science stuff? It looks like you're actually doing something productive. Bonus points if you squint.

Sky Ball - Adventure 3D — It's just rolling a ball around. Low screen movement, low noise, low suspicion. Perfect for when you need to stare at something for a minute.

Rules I live by

  1. No sound. Obviously. Mute everything.
  2. Keep it in a tab you can close instantly. Don't make it your active tab — keep it in a background tab you can flip to when nobody's looking.
  3. Set a timer. I set a 5-minute timer on my phone. If it rings, I close the game no matter what. Otherwise I'll lose the whole afternoon.
  4. Know your boss. If they walk by often, stick to the super low-key ones. If they're never around, you can get away with more.

At the end of the day, taking breaks makes you more productive, not less. You're not being lazy — you're recharging so you can get back to work better.

Just don't let your boss catch you. That's not my advice.

What's your sneaky work break game? Drop it in the comments — I need more ideas.
