Blockup Puzzle

Step 1 — Understand the Goal Falling blocks — called tetrominoes — drop from the top of the playing field one at a time. Each piece is made up of four squares arranged in one of seven classic shapes. Your objective is to maneuver each falling piece into position so that when it lands, it helps form complete horizontal rows across the grid. Complete a row and it vanishes, earning you points and clearing space for more blocks. Step 2 — Move Pieces Left and Right Use the left and right arrow keys (or swipe on mobile) to slide the falling piece horizontally across the grid. Position it directly above the gap or space where you want it to land. Step 3 — Rotate Pieces Press the up arrow key (or tap rotate on mobile) to spin the falling piece 90 degrees clockwise. Rotating pieces allows you to flip them into different orientations to better fit the gaps in your existing stack. Planning your rotation before the piece lands low is the key to clean placements. Step 4 — Control the Drop Speed Press the down arrow key to accelerate the piece's descent (soft drop) for faster placement. Press the spacebar to hard drop — sending the piece instantly to the bottom wherever it is positioned. A faint ghost piece shows exactly where the block will land before you commit. Step 5 — Clear Lines to Score When an entire horizontal row is filled from left to right with no empty spaces, that line disappears and you score points. Clearing multiple lines at the same time scores significantly more than clearing them one by one — clearing four lines in a single move (known as a Tetris) rewards the maximum points. Step 6 — Survive the Speed Increase With every level you advance, the blocks fall faster. The game that felt relaxed at level one becomes a genuine reflex challenge by level five and beyond. The game ends the moment blocks pile up and reach the top of the playing field with no space for a new piece to enter. Controls Desktop: Left/Right arrow keys to move, Up arrow to rotate, Down arrow to soft drop, Spacebar to hard drop Mobile: Swipe left/right to move, tap to rotate, swipe down to drop Tips to Score Higher Keep the playing field as flat and level as possible — jagged, uneven stacks make future pieces much harder to place cleanly and lead to gaps that are almost impossible to fill Always prioritize the long straight I-piece — leave a single vertical column open at the edge so you can drop it in and clear four lines at once for maximum points Look at the "next piece" preview before your current piece lands — knowing what's coming lets you set up the perfect position rather than reacting blindly Never sacrifice the whole board chasing a single Tetris clear — if the stack is getting dangerous, clear single lines to buy yourself breathing room first
